Spring-Summer 2021 Haute Couture
This collection was all about family and reunions. Although the world is living in difficult times, Virgine Viard and her team strove to carry on the legacy, grace, and elegant style of the House of Chanel to put together a collection that symbolizes one of the most important things in life – those who mean the most to us.
Virginie Viard, the creative director of Chanel, presented the Chanel SS21 haute couture collection and simultaneously transported viewers to a fairytale-like wedding reception, with the perfect beauty look to go along with it.
This show was all about big family reunions.
“There’s this spirit at Chanel today. Because Chanel is also like a family…
I came up with the idea of a small cortege that would come down the stairs of the Grand Palais and pass beneath arches of flowers. Like a family celebration, a wedding…”says Viard.
The Chanel couture collection was a mash-up of the Cocoisms beloved by women of all generations: utilitarian wide-leg pants, boleros and buttoned waistcoats, delicate lace and organza dresses, and exquisitely embellished handmade floral embellishments celebrating Mother Nature.
Truly impressive was the final bridal look: Brought out on a horse, the long-sleeved gown featured buttons down the entire front, its long, ultra-feminine train balanced with statement shoulders and big cuffs.
We all long for stunning clothes and hope to leave the sweatpants phase behind us soon. Chanel gives us hope, like in a magical fairy tale that always finds its good end.
